- Her Story
Olivia B. Lomax is a highly experienced patent engineer with a passion for driving innovation through intellectual property (IP) education. As an expert in patent analysis and engineering, Olivia has spent over 14 years helping organizations of all sizes build valuable patent portfolios. Currently working for a major American automaker, Olivia is instrumental in turning innovative ideas into patents that provide a competitive advantage. Her work includes analyzing patentability, conducting patent searches, managing invention disclosures, and generating IP awareness.

In addition to her professional experience, Olivia is a dedicated advocate for IP education, particularly for women and minorities. She believes that expanding IP education is critical to closing the gender and racial gap in patent ownership and promoting diverse innovation. Olivia is an accomplished inventor herself, holding five patents and two trademarks. She has earned recognition for her contributions to the field, including a Patent Recognition Award from the Society of Women Engineers in 2020.

Olivia earned her Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Kettering University and her MBA from Wayne State University. She recently obtained a graduate certificate in intellectual property law from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Olivia is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers. She lives in Metro Detroit with her husband and daughter.
